Andrea Rose Teodosio Foundation

Doing more for others than yourself.

SHARING THE LOVE!

The Andrea Rose Teodosio has made significant contributions to organizations that serve populations that Andrea held close to her heart.

These include:

The Akron Children's Museum

Stewart's Caring Place

The Akron Canton Regional Food Bank

The Battered Women's Shelter.

In addition, some of our other projects are listed below:

A Rose Project

Through A Rose Project, hundreds of girls in foster care or otherwise in need receive dresses, shoes and accessories so they can attend their high school homecoming or prom in style. Volunteers help the girls choose dresses and accessories to make each girl's experience special. New and gently worn prom and homecoming dresses can be donated at a collection box at the lobby of the Juvenile Court on 650 Dan Street. You can also contact us to arrange for a pick up.  We are especially in need of dresses sizes 18 and above. If you leave your contact information, you will be mailed a tax receipt. A Rose Project is done in conjunction with the CASA Guardian ad Litem Program of Summit County and Holy Family Girl Scout troop 1063. Coit Cleaners generously donated cleaning for all of the dresses. The Rose Project makes its home at Reidinger School, 77 W.Thornton Street in Akron.  If you know of a girl in need, please invite them to attend any of our giveaway dates or contact us at andrearoseteodosiomemorial@gmail.com to make an appointment.

Red Cross Community Dinner

In March,2013, volunteers representing the Foundation fed the hungry at a Red Cross Community Dinner. We shared time with absolutely amazing people. The Foundation funded the dinner and take-home meals for those in need.

Project Warm

Project Warm assisted the homeless in our community by providing hats, gloves and socks for distribution.  Contributions were made to "Stand Down for Homeless Vets," Walsh Jesuit High School Labra, John Carroll University Labra, Hoban High School Project Hope, Haven of Rest, Harvest Home and the Battered Women's Shelter.  Thank you to Holy Family Cadette Girls Scout Troop 905 who assembled packets and to Holy Family School and Brian Hagenmaier MAS Inc. for contibuting Project Warm items.

Scholarship Funds

A proud graduate of Walsh Jesuit High School and John Carroll University, Andrea valued education. Scholarship funds were donated to the Council of Italian-American Societies to award several scholarships in her name in 2011 through 2015. Past recipients include Alessandra Dickos, 2013; Jenna Romansky, 2012; Alyssa Chiarappa, 2011. In addition, a scholarship was awarded to the 2012 Andrea Rose Teodosio Young Adult Service Award recipient, Jonathan Crabbs. The Sons of Italy also awarded a scholarship in Andrea's memory to Christina Dickos.

Memorial Gifts

To inspire others to be men and women for others, memorial gifts were granted to Andrea's alma maters. To honor the time Andrea served as the 2006 senior class secretary at Walsh Jesuit High School, funding was donated toward the crucifix that graces the Chapel of the North American Martyrs. Andrea served as President of Student Council at Holy Family for the 2001-2002 school year, and funding was provided to Holy Family Parish to support a new flag pole and rose garden in the front of the school.

Pinnacle Awards

We are thrilled that the Summit County United Way and Inside Business Magazine chose to honor Andrea's memory and unrealized potential by establishing the Andrea R. Teodosio Rising Star Award. The 2012 Award was given to Hannah Nitz of Open M for her work with Bridges Out of Poverty. The Foundation made a donation to the Bridges Out of Poverty effort in Summit County in Hannah's honor. In 2013, the award went to Andrea's longtime friend Dr. Lauren Spalding, a resident at Summa Akron City Hospital. Lauren works diligently in many volunteer efforts, including Coleman Adult Day Services. Lasharida Fellows was the 2015 recipient.

Italian-American Council's Young Adult Service Award

In 2011, Andrea was the first recipient of the Italian-American Council's Young Adult Service Award, which was named after her. The 2013 recipient was Ashley Zampelli and the 2012 recipient was Jonathan Crabbs.

Raised Gardens

Many people who enjoy gardening find that it can become difficult when they are faced with injury or old age. Because of the love that Andrea had for the elderly, the Foundation has made it part of its giving to donate raised garden beds that are accessible to people who can no longer bend over or are confined to a wheelchair. In 2012, a raised garden bed was donated to the Laurel House in Hudson, which provides housing for displaced seniors. In 2013, a raised garden bed was donated to the Adult Day Services Program of Catholic Charities of Summit County.
